I'll also note that there are two models-the model sold in the US, and the model sold overseas-the instructions pdf on this page are for the overseas model, so if you are hoping to daisy chain them, you won't be able to as indicated, there is no cutout in the metal chassis, you'll need to cut one out, and wire it yourself-good luck. Make sure you have a very handy friend and perhaps two ladders. I did not mount and hardwire this unit as I wanted to test all of the above first, but the instructions tell you to hardwire, THEN screw it to your junction box, using two people to hold it up, which is kinda hilarious and a recipe for frustration. Color temperature options are nice, but of course not as realistic as a traditional incandescent. As far as brightness, this thing gets very bright, but does not dim quite as far as I would like for a bedroom. If I perhaps had taller ceilings, or wasn't quite as picky, I probably would have kept this. My ceilings are 8', and the beam only started to light from about 6.5-7 up, and did not light up the height of the entire wall, unlike a traditional flushmount. I was looking to replace a single bulb flushmount with something brighter and with some color temperature options, but found that the beam spread of this is simple not wide enough for my liking. 4ĭecent, with more caveats zeldon So, I really wanted to like this thing, and was real close to keeping it, but it just marginally did not work in my use case scenario. 3 different light temps and plenty of intensity options. I plugged it in, and voila! It was more work than I wanted, but not terribly difficult, and the product works as advertised w/the remote. I gathered the excess cord from the ANSLUTA (it's long) and kept it behind the light's mount, then passed the remaining cord btwn the mount and the light (there's no hole for this, but it works anyway). So I worked it out manually, putting the ends of the hot (black) wire and the neutral (white) wire in separate connection holes of the ANSLUTA cord and securing firmly with electrical tape (you do not need the other ground wire for this type of install, but I capped it off just in case). I expected from my online research that there would be a plug-in option for the ANSLUTA on the back of the panel for free-standing hanging, but no such luck.
Here's what ended up working for me: I purchased the ANSLUTA power supply cord and the TRADFRI remote (which you have to have to make this work properly).
I tried to reach IKEA directly but was never able to get through. I did a LOT of research because of the issues noted in these reviews, and can tell you the description is clearly just copied from the original European guide. Great product BUT JayTnyc I have an apartment with low light and wanted the FLOALT panel to hang freestanding on my wall to mimic the feeling of an additional window during this COVID quarantine.
